Search Crews Locate 2 Missing Gorge Hikers

MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. — Two hikers who got lost as the sun set while hiking the Columbia Gorge Wednesday have made it back to safety thanks to a Multnomah search and rescue crew response.

The hikers were able to communicate with sheriff’s deputies via text message to tell them they weren’t injured — but just couldn’t find their way back to the trailhead. Search and rescue teams started at the Oneonta and Horsetail Falls trailheads, working for hours to locate the two hikers.
The initial call came in around 7 p.m. Crews tracked down the hikers just before midnight, almost five hours later.
