CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. — Rescue crews searched overnight Tuesday for a hiker that was lost in the Mt. Hood National Forest near Larch Mountain, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said.
Alexio Avila called emergency dispatchers saying he trekked to the top of Larch Mountain and lost his track on the return trip.
The hiker said he was standing on a rocky road and that his cellphone was low on battery. Dispatchers told him to stay put while search and rescue crews went out to find him.
Rescue crews then drove to an access road on Larch Mountain to find the hiker. When they got to the spot they thought he would be, he was gone.
Avila made his own way back, and hiked to a house on Palmer Mill Road near Brower Road by around 6 a.m. Wednesday. Initial reports say he’s in good condition.
